Flourite Clear
Fluorite is often found as cubic crystals, and as these have grown from inside to outside, sometimes each layer of the crystal can have different colours. Fluorite can also fluoresce. It can be blue, but sometimes, yellow, green, red, white or purple. The word 'fluorescent' is derived from specimens of fluorite. This process was first observed in them.

Occasionally a crystal of fluorite will also thermo-luminescence, that is they will glow when heated. They can even do this from being held in your hand in a dark room. Surprisingly, this is usually a one off event for any one crystal. The forms of fluorite used in schools, universities and in gem shops are not usually crystals, but are produced by the way fluorite crystals gleam to produce a octahedral or double pyramid shape.
